The Element of Fire (Ile-Rien, #1) by Martha Wells The beginning of the adventures. This is her first book in this series, and it is done quite well. I'm not one who reads much fantasy, but this series has captured my imagination. The plot is well formed and has plenty of surprises. The characters are all complex, and have many layers and textures. The Element of Fire was pretty good I thought. It was a little hard to follow at times, but for the most part it was a very good read. Thomas and Kade are both fantastic Characters and Wells does a good job creating the world they live in. Add a happy ending in for good luck and you've got yourself a pretty darn good book. Fire was her debut book, published in , and lacks the finesse of her later works. It is a more traditional fantasy focused on a court setting, with. Three and a half stars. If you are considering Martha Wells, I suggest starting with one of her books besides The Element of Fire.
